Hunters are responsible for purchasing appropriate tags and licenses and obeying the regulations of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.  Coal Camp Outfitters will require all hunters to produce a valid hunting license and tag, and provide proof of identification before being allowed to hunt on Coal Camp property.
Iowa tags are awarded through a lottery draw.  Nonresidents may apply for an any-deer license, or preference points, beginning at 6 a.m. on the first Saturday in May through the first Sunday following Memorial Day. Licenses may be applied for through the DNR's web-based license sales system or by calling 1-800-367-1188.  For more information, visit the Iowa DNR website via the link below, or call 515-281-5918.  If hunting with Coal Camp, you will need to designate Zone 5 in your application.  We'd be glad to send you a reminder for the 2018 application period.

Please note:  Although it is possible to draw a gun tag the first year you apply, we require non-resident hunters to have one preference point before we will reserve a gun week for you.  Bow tags in Zone 5 are becoming more and more difficult to draw.  In 2017 only half of the bow applicants with 3 points were successful in drawing a tag in Zone 5.  Therefore, we are now requiring our bow hunters to have four preference points and applying on their 5th year to reserve a hunt during the bow season. Because of the limited number of hunters we host each year, we find these requirements help ensure a successful draw and allows better scheduling for both Coal Camp and our hunters.
